Porsche Cayman Battery Selection by Coupé Generation
The Porsche Cayman is the fixed-roof member of Porsche's mid-engined sports-car line, progressing through 987, 981 and 718 generations. Base, S, R, GTS, GT4 and GT4 RS derivatives need exact battery matching.
Enter the model year, engine, transmission and performance version above. The Cayman name covers both everyday coupés and highly specialised track-focused cars.
987 Cayman, Cayman S and Cayman R
The first 987 Cayman uses naturally aspirated flat-six engines, with S and later R models adding different performance and equipment specifications. Manual, Tiptronic and PDK availability varies through the run.
Use the VIN to separate facelift cars and check the actual tray hardware. A lighter battery installed for track use may not represent the original road specification.
981 Cayman, S and GTS Models
The 981 generation combines six-cylinder power with newer electrical management, PDK options and Start Stop on applicable versions. Cayman, Cayman S and GTS outputs should not be grouped together by body shape.
Match the approved cycling technology and monitor capacity as well as CCA. A battery can crank when warm yet fail after the car has stood with security systems active.
718 Cayman and Cayman S Flat-Four Engines
The 718 Cayman introduced turbocharged 2.0-litre power, while the Cayman S uses a larger 2.5-litre flat-four. Their charging strategy, engine controls and boost systems distinguish them from earlier naturally aspirated coupés.
Select base or S plus manual or PDK before ordering. Complete Porsche battery registration when specified so energy management recognises the replacement.
GTS 4.0, GT4 and GT4 RS Derivatives
Six-cylinder 718 Cayman GTS 4.0, GT4 and GT4 RS models have unique engines, motorsport equipment and weight priorities. Some performance cars may use factory lightweight low-voltage technology.
Do not replace a lithium unit with AGM, or the reverse, without a model-specific approval. Quote the chassis number and option data for every GT application.
Fixed Roof, Rear Hatch and Luggage-Area Loads
Unlike the Boxster, the Cayman has no powered convertible roof, but its large rear hatch, heated glass and luggage lighting create a different electrical pattern. The hatch may remain open while helmets or touring bags are loaded.
Confirm the rear latch reports closed and that cargo lamps extinguish. A faulty hatch signal can flatten the battery long after the vehicle appears locked.
Track Days, Data Equipment and Hot Restarts
Caymans used on circuit may power lap timers, cameras, tyre equipment and cooling fans between sessions. Heat-soaked restarts also expose weak capacity and resistance in the high-current path.
Test the battery before an event and secure it with the correct factory restraint. Added data equipment should isolate when the ignition is off.
Low Mileage, Trackers and Garage Storage
Many Cayman owners alternate long drives with weeks of garage storage. Alarm systems, keyless receivers and insurer trackers draw current even when the car is covered and dry.
Use a suitable maintenance charger rather than repeated jump starts. Measure parasitic draw after the car has fully entered sleep mode if discharge remains excessive.
Order the Exact Porsche Cayman Battery
Confirm 987, 981 or 718, then match derivative, engine and gearbox to physical dimensions, polarity, clamp, vent, Ah, CCA and approved construction. Preserve coding, stored settings and factory weight specification.
