Porsche 718 Battery Selection for the 982 Sports-Car Family
The Porsche 718 page covers the later 982-generation mid-engined family, including 718 Boxster roadsters, 718 Cayman coupés, GTS, GT4 and Spyder derivatives. It is distinct from pages centred on earlier Boxster or Cayman histories.
Choose body, engine, transmission and performance version above. A base 718 and a GT4 RS share architecture but not necessarily battery construction or service requirements.
718 Boxster and Cayman 2.0-Litre Models
Entry 718 Boxster and Cayman models use a turbocharged 2.0-litre flat-four engine with manual or PDK transmission. Their managed charging, engine electronics and Start Stop system require a suitable cycling battery.
Match the specified AGM or other approved design along with Ah and CCA. Turning off automatic stopping does not change how the charging system manages the unit.
718 Boxster S and Cayman S 2.5-Litre
S derivatives use the larger turbocharged 2.5-litre flat-four and add performance equipment beyond the base cars. Roadster and coupé versions also place different accessory demands on low voltage.
Select S and body type explicitly in the finder. A battery chosen for a 2.0 because it occupies the same tray may not meet the approved rating.
718 GTS 4.0 Six-Cylinder Versions
The 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 and Cayman GTS 4.0 use a naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine rather than the turbo flat-four. They therefore need a derivative-specific lookup despite wearing the same GTS badge style.
Confirm manual or PDK and the full model year. Preserve factory technology and complete battery registration after installation when required.
718 Cayman GT4 and GT4 RS
Cayman GT4 and GT4 RS models combine six-cylinder power with motorsport-focused chassis, cooling and data systems. Weight-saving options can include specialised low-voltage batteries that need compatible chargers.
Never exchange lithium and lead-acid technologies on appearance alone. Use the VIN and factory option record for every GT or Weissach-equipped car.
718 Spyder and Spyder RS
The 718 Spyder and Spyder RS are lightweight open sports cars with manually managed roof arrangements and highly specific performance equipment. Their electrical use differs from the fully powered hood on a standard 718 Boxster.
Confirm the exact Spyder derivative rather than selecting any open 718. Careful storage matters because reduced weight does not remove alarm, tracker and controller loads.
Roadster Roof Systems versus Cayman Rear Hatch
A 718 Boxster powers roof motors, latches and window drops, while a 718 Cayman uses a fixed roof, heated rear glass and a large hatch. These body-specific functions create genuinely different parked demands.
Avoid repeated roof cycles with the engine off and check every hatch or roof signal before locking. A module held awake can flatten even a healthy battery.
Weekend Driving, Track Use and Storage
718 cars may spend weeks garaged, then power cameras, timing equipment or cooling fans during a track day. This irregular pattern is harder on charge balance than consistent road use.
Use a Porsche-compatible maintainer during storage, secure the battery correctly for high cornering loads and isolate non-factory equipment between events.
Order the Exact Porsche 718 Battery
Identify Boxster, Cayman, GTS, GT4 or Spyder, then match engine, gearbox and option specification to size, terminals, hold-down, venting, Ah, CCA and approved chemistry. Perform Porsche registration and functional checks after fitting.
See all Porsche batteries, or visit the dedicated Porsche Boxster battery and Porsche Cayman battery pages for their earlier generations. Send the VIN for GTS, GT4 RS or Spyder RS models.
