TECHNOLOGY
What does SLA AGM mean?
SLA means sealed lead acid. These batteries are also commonly
described as VRLA, meaning valve-regulated lead acid.
In an AGM battery, the electrolyte is held within absorbent glass mat separators.
This allows the battery to remain sealed and maintenance-free during normal use.
SLA batteries should still be installed, charged and handled in accordance with
the equipment and battery manufacturer’s instructions.
CHOOSING A BATTERY
Check these details before ordering
-
1
VoltageMatch the existing 6V or 12V battery exactly.
-
2
CapacityA small difference in Ah is usually acceptable when the voltage, battery type, physical dimensions and terminal arrangement match.
-
3
DimensionsConfirm length, width and height before purchase.
-
4
TerminalsCheck terminal type, size and position.
-
5
Application typeConfirm whether standby or cyclic performance is required.
Physical size is the key check
For a like-for-like SLA/AGM replacement, the battery must fit the available space and the
voltage, technology and terminal arrangement must match. The Ah rating may be slightly
higher or lower where the physical dimensions are the same, but always follow the equipment
manufacturer's requirements where a specific capacity is stated.
