Nissan Note Battery Selection for E11, E12 and e-POWER

The Nissan Note combines supermini running costs with a tall, flexible cabin. UK E11 and E12 cars use petrol or dCi diesel engines, while later imported Note e-POWER models introduce a separate electrified architecture.

Enter the generation, year, engine and transmission above. A used import should be identified from its chassis and source market instead of being treated as a familiar UK petrol Note.

E11 1.4 and 1.6 Petrol Note

First-generation E11 Notes are widely found with 1.4- and 1.6-litre petrol engines, paired with manual or automatic transmission according to derivative. The compact engine bay makes case height and terminal side important.

Check the production period and gearbox before ordering. A battery selected only by engine capacity may have the wrong base clamp or insufficient cable reach despite fitting between the tray edges.

E11 1.5 dCi Diesel Starting

The E11 range also includes the 1.5 dCi diesel, whose glow plugs and compression require stronger cold-start performance than the small petrol cars. Winter short trips can leave this demand unsupported by a partly charged unit.

Measure cranking voltage and inspect the engine earth if turnover remains laboured. A diesel-specific CCA rating cannot cure resistance in ageing starter cables.

E12 1.2 Petrol and Supercharged DIG-S

Second-generation E12 models commonly use a three-cylinder 1.2 petrol engine, while DIG-S versions add a supercharger and efficiency equipment. Manual and Xtronic transmission choices should be selected independently.

DIG-S is an engine designation, not merely a trim badge. Use the registration or VIN to distinguish it and preserve the specified Start Stop battery technology where fitted.

E12 dCi, Xtronic and Equipment Differences

Selected E12 Notes use the 1.5 dCi diesel, and higher grades can add keyless access, navigation, cameras and climate control. These features make a stable low-voltage supply important during startup even in a modest family hatchback.

Several warning lamps following a weak crank may share the same voltage event. Load-test the supply and examine main grounds before replacing individual control components.

Imported Note e-POWER Battery Roles

A Japanese-market Note e-POWER uses a petrol engine as a generator while an electric motor drives the wheels. Its traction battery stores propulsion energy, and a separate low-voltage source operates locks, computers and ready-mode switching.

The ordinary battery finder does not list the high-voltage pack. Import specifications can differ by chassis series, so provide the full frame number and avoid applying a UK E12 fitment without confirmation.

Sliding Rear Bench, Tailgate and Family Use

The Note's appeal comes from its adaptable rear seating and generous luggage space, which encourage long periods with doors or tailgate open while child equipment and shopping are moved. Courtesy lamps and body modules remain active throughout.

Check that every latch reports closed after loading and avoid extended audio use with the engine off. Repeat discharge after family trips can point to a boot switch rather than inadequate battery size.

Urban Journeys and Parked Accessories

Many Notes complete short school, care or shopping routes with heater blower, demisters and phone charging in use. Dash cameras, replacement head units and insurance devices can further reduce reserve between brief journeys.

Charge and test the battery before condemning it, then measure sleep current if charge disappears again. Disconnect added devices methodically so the actual drain is identified.

Confirm Your Nissan Note Battery

Identify E11, E12 or imported e-POWER, then match fuel, engine and gearbox to footprint, height, terminals, hold-down, vent, Ah, CCA and required battery construction. Follow any monitoring procedure after installation.

See all Nissan batteries, or compare the smaller Nissan Micra battery page and crossover Nissan Juke battery guide. Send registration or chassis details for DIG-S, Xtronic or imported e-POWER cars.

HELP & ADVICE

Nissan Note battery FAQs

How do I find the correct Nissan Note battery?

Select the year, engine and fuel type in the finder above. Then compare the recommended battery dimensions, terminal layout and hold-down with the battery currently fitted.

Does my Nissan Note need an AGM battery?

Some versions use AGM, particularly vehicles with Start/Stop, regenerative charging or higher electrical demand. Always replace AGM with AGM and do not downgrade the technology.

Can I replace an EFB battery with AGM?

An AGM upgrade may be suitable where the physical size, terminal layout and vehicle charging requirements are correct. Do not replace an AGM battery with EFB or standard technology.

Do I need to register the new battery?

Some vehicles use battery monitoring and energy-management systems that require the new battery to be registered or coded. Check the vehicle handbook or seek professional advice.

How long should a Nissan Note battery last?

Battery life varies with journey type, temperature, electrical demand and charging condition. Frequent short trips and long periods without use can reduce service life.
