Nissan Leaf 12V battery information

The Nissan Leaf has a high-voltage traction battery that powers the electric motor, but it also uses a separate 12V auxiliary battery for locks, control modules, lighting and vehicle systems. This page and finder are intended to help identify the 12V battery, not the high-voltage EV battery pack.

A weak 12V battery can cause warning messages, access problems or prevent the vehicle from entering ready mode, even when the main traction battery still has charge.

Does a Nissan replacement battery need resetting?

Reset or registration requirements depend on the model and year. Some Nissan vehicles may require the battery monitoring or charging system to be reset after replacement, particularly when the new battery differs in capacity or technology from the original.

Nissan stop-start battery replacement

If your Nissan automatically switches the engine off when stationary and restarts it when you move away, it will normally require an EFB or AGM battery. Replace the battery like-for-like unless Nissan approves a different specification. Using the wrong battery type can shorten service life and affect stop-start operation.

No. The finder is for the Nissan Leaf's 12V auxiliary battery, not the high-voltage traction battery that powers the electric motor.

Can I replace a Nissan AGM battery with a normal battery?

Normally no. If AGM is specified, fit an AGM replacement. A conventional battery may not cope with the charging strategy, stop-start operation or electrical demands of the vehicle.

Why has stop-start stopped working on my Nissan?

Stop-start may be disabled when battery charge or condition is too low. Temperature, electrical demand and other operating conditions can also temporarily prevent the system from working.
