Mitsubishi Colt Battery Selection Across Old and New Models
The Mitsubishi Colt name covers several compact-car generations. UK roads are dominated by the 2004-era hatchbacks, CZT and CZC, while a newer European Colt offers petrol and full-hybrid power.
Select the year, body, engine and gearbox above. A CZ1 hatchback, turbo CZT, hard-top CZC and modern hybrid are different battery applications despite sharing the Colt badge.
1.1 and 1.3 Petrol Hatchbacks
Everyday CZ1, CZ2 and CZ3 cars commonly use compact 1.1- or 1.3-litre petrol engines in three- and five-door bodies. Their small size makes terminal position and case height especially important.
Do not buy solely by Ah. Confirm the base clamp, cable reach and tray clearance so the bonnet and protective covers close correctly.
1.5 Petrol and DI-D Diesel Colts
The Colt range also includes 1.5-litre petrol and DI-D diesel versions. Diesel preheating and compression need more cold-start performance than an entry petrol car.
Record fuel type and transmission before searching. If cranking remains slow with a tested battery, inspect the starter earth and positive cable for resistance.
CZT and Ralliart Turbo Models
The Colt CZT and related Ralliart derivatives use a turbocharged 1.5-litre engine and performance equipment. They should be selected explicitly rather than grouped with a naturally aspirated 1.5.
Enthusiast cars often carry upgraded stereos, gauges or alarms and may sit between weekend drives. Audit these additions if the battery loses charge while parked.
Colt CZC Retractable Hard-Top
The CZC coupé-convertible uses an electrically operated retractable hard-top, windows and latches in addition to its 1.5-litre engine. Roof operation places a concentrated load on the low-voltage system.
Avoid cycling the roof repeatedly with the engine off, and diagnose slow or interrupted movement before trying again. CZC and CZT body specifications are not interchangeable.
New European Petrol and Hybrid Colt
The latest European Colt is a newer platform available with petrol and full-hybrid powertrains. The hybrid has a traction battery for electric assistance plus a separate low-voltage system for computers and ready-mode control.
Imported cars require VIN and source-country identification. A battery for a 2000s CZ3 cannot be assumed suitable for a current connected hybrid hatchback.
City Driving and Small-Car Charge Balance
Colts often perform short shopping and commuter trips with lights, heater blower and phone charging active. Repeated cold starts can consume more energy than the alternator replaces on each journey.
Slow cranking, lost settings or dim lights call for a proper load test. A brief drive after jump starting does not fully recharge a deeply discharged battery.
Age, Alarms and Parked Drain
Older Colts may have aftermarket immobilisers, radios or USB adaptors fitted through years of ownership. Corroded earth points and door switches can create faults that resemble battery failure.
Let the car enter its settled state before measuring current. Repair a drain or poor connection instead of repeatedly fitting higher-capacity batteries.
Order the Correct Colt Battery
Match engine, body and generation to the approved dimensions, polarity, hold-down, venting, Ah, CCA and technology. Check roof equipment separately on CZC and the voltage role on hybrid cars.
