Mitsubishi ASX Battery Matching by Generation

The Mitsubishi ASX most familiar in the UK is the compact crossover sold with petrol and DI-D diesel engines. A newer European ASX uses different petrol and electrified powertrains, so the two model families must not be combined.

Enter the registration year, engine, transmission and 2WD or 4WD specification above. Trim names such as Juro, Black, Dynamic and Exceed are useful checks but do not replace drivetrain data.

1.6 Petrol ASX Models

Many UK ASX cars use a 1.6-litre MIVEC petrol engine with a manual gearbox. Their battery cranks the engine and supplies steering, stability control, security and infotainment during startup.

Short urban use can leave these cars undercharged even when cranking still sounds normal. Compare the original case, terminal side and catalogue CCA before ordering.

1.8 and 2.2 DI-D Diesel Versions

ASX diesel derivatives include 1.8- and 2.2-litre DI-D engines with stronger cold-start demand from glow plugs and compression. Automatic and four-wheel-drive versions should be identified precisely.

A petrol battery should not be transferred because the tray looks alike. Test alternator output and the starter-earth path if a diesel turns slowly after a cold night.

ASX 4WD and Exceed Equipment

Selected ASX models use an electronically controlled 4WD system, while higher trims can add keyless access, heated seats, cameras and upgraded audio. These systems all rely on steady low voltage during wake-up.

Multiple traction-control or 4WD warnings can share one weak-battery event. Load-test the supply before replacing wheel-speed or drivetrain components.

AS&G Start Stop Requirements

Mitsubishi's Auto Stop & Go function is a Start Stop system that repeatedly shuts down and restarts the engine in suitable traffic conditions. Vehicles equipped with it need the specified cycling-capable battery.

Retain the approved AGM or EFB construction shown for the exact ASX. Turning AS&G off does not change the charging strategy or make a basic flooded unit suitable.

Later European ASX Petrol and Hybrid Models

The newer European-market ASX is a different vehicle available with petrol, mild-hybrid, full-hybrid and, in some ranges, plug-in-hybrid power. Imported examples need market-specific identification.

On a hybrid, the normal low-voltage battery has a separate job from the traction energy store. Supply the full VIN and source country rather than applying a used UK ASX recommendation.

Connected Features and Parked Wake-Ups

Later ASX technology can include app services, Google-based infotainment and remote vehicle functions. Keyless entry, status requests and aftermarket trackers may wake modules while the crossover is parked.

An occasional wake-up is expected, but repeated flattening needs a measured sleep-current test. Disconnect non-factory accessories from the diagnosis one circuit at a time.

Crossover Use and Tailgate Activity

Loading shopping, pushchairs or sports equipment with the tailgate open keeps cargo lighting and body electronics active. Frequent short stops may consume more energy than the next brief journey restores.

Check that latch switches report closed and that cabin lamps extinguish. A larger case cannot compensate for a tailgate circuit that never sleeps.

Order the Correct ASX Battery

Confirm generation, fuel and drive system, then match length, width, height, terminal orientation, hold-down, venting, Ah, CCA and battery technology. Follow any required battery-monitoring reset after fitting.

See all Mitsubishi batteries, or compare the larger Mitsubishi Outlander battery guide. Contact us with the VIN for AS&G, diesel, 4WD or a newer European hybrid ASX.

HELP & ADVICE

Mitsubishi ASX battery FAQs

How do I find the correct Mitsubishi ASX battery?

Select the year, engine and fuel type in the finder above. Then compare the recommended battery dimensions, terminal layout and hold-down with the battery currently fitted.

Does my Mitsubishi ASX need an AGM battery?

Some versions use AGM, particularly vehicles with Start/Stop, regenerative charging or higher electrical demand. Always replace AGM with AGM and do not downgrade the technology.

Can I replace an EFB battery with AGM?

An AGM upgrade may be suitable where the physical size, terminal layout and vehicle charging requirements are correct. Do not replace an AGM battery with EFB or standard technology.

Do I need to register the new battery?

Some vehicles use battery monitoring and energy-management systems that require the new battery to be registered or coded. Check the vehicle handbook or seek professional advice.

How long should a Mitsubishi ASX battery last?

Battery life varies with journey type, temperature, electrical demand and charging condition. Frequent short trips and long periods without use can reduce service life.
