Find the Correct Battery for Your Hyundai i10
The Hyundai i10 is a compact city car, but its battery specification has changed across generations. Engine choice, transmission, Intelligent Stop and Go equipment and the later N Line all affect the correct fitment.
Select the production year and exact petrol engine in the finder above. The resulting Lucas batteries are matched to the vehicle rather than a trim name such as SE, Premium or N Line.
i10 Petrol Engine Variations
Most UK i10 models use 1.0 or 1.2-litre petrol engines, with manual and automatic transmissions across the range. Later N Line versions can use a turbocharged T-GDi engine that should be selected independently.
A small engine does not automatically need the smallest available battery. The case must fit securely while providing the capacity and cold-cranking output specified for the year.
Short Urban Journeys
Many i10s spend their lives on shopping trips, school runs and local commutes. Starting the engine while using the blower, heated rear window, headlights and infotainment can consume more energy than a brief drive replaces.
The battery may remain partly charged for weeks before cold weather exposes the reduced reserve. Occasional longer journeys or a suitable maintenance charger can help a low-mileage vehicle.
ISG and Start Stop Batteries
Hyundai's Intelligent Stop and Go system can require an enhanced EFB or AGM battery. These technologies tolerate repeated engine restarts and controlled charging better than a normal flooded unit.
Check the label on the existing battery and the finder result. AGM must remain AGM, while an EFB application should receive the specified equivalent or an approved AGM upgrade. Disabling ISG does not change the charging design.
N Line Does Not Always Mean the Same Engine
The i10 N Line combines sportier equipment with specific engine options that vary by model year. It is not the same as a full Hyundai N performance model, and the badge alone cannot identify the battery.
Use the engine output or registration rather than applying a general recommendation for every N Line car.
Parked Accessories and Battery Drain
Dash cameras, trackers and USB adapters are common additions to city cars. If wired to a permanent supply, they can continue drawing current after the i10 is locked.
A recently charged or replaced battery that repeatedly becomes flat needs a shutdown-current test. Installing a larger unit will not correct equipment that fails to switch off.
Symptoms of a Weak i10 Battery
Possible signs include hesitant cranking, ISG remaining unavailable, central locking becoming unreliable, the clock resetting or several dashboard lights appearing briefly during startup.
Inspect battery terminals and the engine earth as well as testing alternator output. A loose or corroded connection can imitate a failing battery.
Check the Physical Fit
Compare length, width, height, base clamp, positive-terminal position, Ah and CCA before fitting. The battery must sit squarely in the tray without strain on the cables.
Applicable later i10 models may use battery monitoring and a specified reset procedure. Allow vehicle electronics to shut down before disconnection.
