Find a Battery for Your Hyundai i30

The Hyundai i30 has been sold as a Hatchback, Tourer and Fastback, with petrol, diesel, mild-hybrid and N performance powertrains. Body style can affect equipment, but engine and production year remain the main battery selectors.

Enter the full vehicle details above for a filtered list of Lucas batteries. Do not rely only on SE, Premium, N Line or N badging.

i30 Petrol and T-GDi Applications

Petrol i30 engines range from earlier naturally aspirated units to turbocharged T-GDi versions in several outputs. Later cars can combine turbo power with a dual-clutch transmission and managed charging.

Two i30s with the same nominal engine capacity may still require different batteries when their model year, output or Idle Stop equipment differs.

CRDi Diesel Cold Starting

CRDi diesels need strong cold-cranking performance to supply glow plugs and turn the engine reliably. This is particularly important for estate or fleet cars expected to start after a cold night.

Match the stated CCA rather than assuming a larger case alone provides the correct specification.

Tourer and Fastback Usage

An i30 Tourer may spend longer with its tailgate open while work or family equipment is loaded, whereas a Fastback can be a lower-mileage private car. Interior lighting and powered accessories consume battery energy before the engine starts.

These usage differences do not replace the formal application data, but they help explain why two identical batteries can experience different service lives.

48V Mild-Hybrid Systems

Mild-hybrid i30 models use a separate 48-volt battery and motor-generator in addition to the conventional low-voltage network. The 12-volt battery still supports locks, lighting, displays and control modules.

Only use this finder for the explicitly listed low-voltage application. A normal starter battery cannot replace the 48-volt hybrid component.

i30 N and N Line Are Different

The i30 N is a dedicated high-performance model, while N Line is primarily a sport-themed range offered with mainstream engines. Their battery recommendations must not be interchanged without an exact application match.

An i30 N used for weekend driving can benefit from an appropriate maintenance charger during long parked periods.

ISG Battery Technology

Where Intelligent Stop and Go is fitted, the i30 can require EFB or AGM construction. This battery must cope with frequent restarts and accept charge under smart alternator control.

AGM must remain AGM. EFB should receive the specified equivalent or an approved AGM upgrade with the correct case and capacity.

Warnings Caused by Low Voltage

Slow cranking may be joined by unavailable ISG, infotainment reboots, smart-key problems or temporary steering, transmission and driver-assistance warnings. Several alerts appearing together can share one voltage cause.

Test battery health, alternator output and main connections before replacing individual electronic components.

Fitment and Sensor Reset

Check tray dimensions, clamp, terminal layout, Ah, CCA and technology. Applicable i30 models may need their battery monitoring data reset after installation.

HELP & ADVICE

Hyundai i30 battery FAQs

How do I find the correct Hyundai i30 battery?

Select the year, engine and fuel type in the finder above. Then compare the recommended battery dimensions, terminal layout and hold-down with the battery currently fitted.

Does my Hyundai i30 need an AGM battery?

Some versions use AGM, particularly vehicles with Start/Stop, regenerative charging or higher electrical demand. Always replace AGM with AGM and do not downgrade the technology.

Can I replace an EFB battery with AGM?

An AGM upgrade may be suitable where the physical size, terminal layout and vehicle charging requirements are correct. Do not replace an AGM battery with EFB or standard technology.

Do I need to register the new battery?

Some vehicles use battery monitoring and energy-management systems that require the new battery to be registered or coded. Check the vehicle handbook or seek professional advice.

How long should a Hyundai i30 battery last?

Battery life varies with journey type, temperature, electrical demand and charging condition. Frequent short trips and long periods without use can reduce service life.
