Vauxhall Combo Battery Selection from Car-Derived Van to EV
The Vauxhall Combo has evolved from a Corsa-derived compact van into a purpose-designed Cargo and Life family, with several platform changes between generations. Petrol, CDTi, Turbo D and battery-electric models share the name while differing sharply in packaging and energy management.
Enter the year, body length and complete derivative above. A 1990s Combo 1.7 diesel, 2014 long-wheelbase 1.6 CDTi and new 52kWh Combo Electric cannot be matched from load volume or rear-door badge alone.
Early Corsa-Based Combo Petrol and Diesel Vans
The 1993-era Combo used Corsa-derived front bodywork with a tall box load area and compact petrol or diesel engines. Many survivors have spent decades carrying tools on short routes, accumulating replacement cables, security devices and non-standard audio equipment.
Inspect the tray, clamp, bonnet clearance and post layout before treating the fitted case as original. Clean the engine ground and test starter voltage drop because an oversized battery cannot overcome resistance in an aged commercial wiring path.
Combo C 1.3 and 1.7 CDTi Applications
The 2001-generation Combo expanded carrying ability while remaining closely related to the Corsa C, with 1.3 and 1.7 CDTi diesels prominent in later UK service. Twin rear doors, side loading access and crew-oriented versions brought frequent lamp and locking activity.
Separate engine size and output, then verify whether the van has factory remote locking or aftermarket fleet hardware. Glow-plug current makes CCA important, but a healthy battery will still discharge if a cargo lamp or door switch never reports closed.
2012 Combo 1.3, 1.6 and 2.0 CDTi Generation
The 2012 model moved to a larger van architecture shared with the Fiat Doblò, offering multiple wheelbases and roof heights with 1.3, 1.6 and selected 2.0 CDTi engines. Its catalogue is not an extension of the smaller Corsa-based vehicle.
Choose engine, length, roof and payload derivative explicitly. Vans used for multi-drop work need strong cranking reserve, while those converted for wheelchair, refrigeration or mobile service require their added circuits to be tested separately.
2018-on Combo Cargo, Life and Current Diesel Models
The next all-new Combo arrived in 2018 as Cargo van and five- or seven-seat Combo Life, using standard or XL bodies. Its launch range included 1.2-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre Turbo D power, while current combustion vans focus on the 1.5 diesel with manual or eight-speed automatic transmission.
Cargo, Crew Van and Life are meaningful search details because equipment and use differ. Specify engine output and gearbox, retain the listed EFB or AGM grade for Start Stop, and do not infer a battery from a related Citroën, Peugeot or Toyota without a confirmed cross-reference.
Combo-e and Combo Electric Auxiliary Power
Combo-e launched with a 50kWh underfloor traction battery and 100kW motor, while the refreshed Combo Electric uses a revised 52kWh pack in current descriptions. The underfloor position preserves useful cargo space but does not eliminate the separate low-voltage system.
A service battery wakes locks, computers and propulsion contactors; it is not the pack that determines driving range. Do not connect routine workshop equipment to orange circuits, and name the electric model year so the correct auxiliary application is returned.
Standard, XL, Crew Van and Life Electrical Loads
Standard and XL panel vans, five-seat Crew Vans and passenger-focused Combo Life models experience different stationary loads. Sliding doors, cabin fans, rear lighting, infotainment and repeated central locking can remain active while parcels, tools or passengers are organised.
Test the vehicle in its real configuration with doors latched and keys removed. A tailgate or rear-door switch that intermittently reports open can explain overnight loss more accurately than simply installing the highest Ah case that fits.
Delivery Accessories and Auxiliary-Battery Conversions
Small-business Combos often carry trackers, payment terminals, dash cameras, work lamps, coolers and signwriting illumination. Mobility or leisure conversions can add lifts, heaters and a second battery with its own charging relay or DC-DC controller.
Document which battery starts the vehicle and which supports the conversion before replacement. Measure each branch after shutdown, confirm fuse protection and avoid mixing unrelated ages or technologies in a system designed to operate as a coordinated bank.
Order the Correct Vauxhall Combo Battery
Identify the Corsa-based, 2001, 2012 or 2018-on generation, then engine, output, transmission, wheelbase, roof, Cargo, Crew or Life body and diesel, Start Stop or Electric system. Verify size, polarity, terminals, hold-down, venting, Ah, CCA and chemistry.
